Reference to those searching for the 'meaning' or 'origin' of the surname 'HOOPER'. It originated in the blacksmithing trade allied to the brewing and coachbuilding industry, Coopers made the barrels, Hoopers made and fixed the hoops around the barrel. The Wheelwrights made the wheels the Hoopers made the the hoops for the wheels. In a message here (lower down) referrring to the 'Royal' coach or carriage... there is an old established company located in the Kilburn/Willesden area of London, called 'HOOPERS'. For centuries this company has carried on the business of coachbuilding. Part of their business includes maintainance and repair of some of the Royal Coaches and Carriages.... they hold at least one Royal Warrant!!! Which would explain 'our' name on the Royal Coach or Carriage in question..... Enjoy your/our history and the search for knowledge!! |

Hoopers were Body Builders to Rolls Royce amongst others but I believe the name first came from the cider industry |
