I'm trying to find a record of John Hornsby of Little Ribson, Wetherby who married Ann ? from Sturton, York around 1850 - can anyone help? |

Thank you for replying. I have gone down the usual routes but cannot find any record at all. So any help would be gratefully received! |

Thank you very much for finding that out for me - I made the assumption that John Hornsby married locally so I am very grateful that you found out where he and his wife married. |

That may not be the right one, as there is a John Hornsby c1827 Whitby with wife Hannah on the 1861 census. |

In 1851 Ann says she's from Knaresborough, if they did marry it must have been before 1850 as they had daughter Mary c1850. |

Personally I would order one of the childrens birth certificates and find Anns maiden name from that. |

Thank you for all that information - I've been looking all afternoon and not come close to anything that you have! |

In 1861 & 1871 he is living next door to a Robert Hornsby c1811 Arkendale who could be a possible relative or even an older brother. |

From what I've seen I don't think mothers maiden name appeared on the index till after 1911 (ish). |

IGI Batch Number: C012393 Hornsby father John has a few more possible siblings. |

Just spent a happy hour looking at the IGI batches you suggested - thank you. Lots of info there and also spotted names that link up with another branch of the family so that is a real success. |
