I was under the impression that the name MATTERFACE was derrived from two parts MATTER an old English word meaning a Tatter of mats and FACE a French word. This could suggest a link to the Channel Islands and may explain why there seem to be no Northern families. I wonder if anyone could shed some light on this.Gillian Matterface now Mooney
