The name McElwee, as the 2 capitals in it surgest, is a double barrel name, ie Mc Elwee. as far as i know the name is exclusivly southern irish but am more likely than not wrong. i can however tell you the interested viewer that Mcelwee is a very Roman catholic name. for instance every mcelwee i have searched, from bbc's weather reporter 'Rob McElwee' to franci mcelwee, a famous francis mcelwee again catholic. any new or informative information is of course most welcome. daniel mcelwee. a very interested researcher. p.s my imediate family on the mcelwee side has for at least 3 gernerations came from/born in the teesside area in north east england.
