Looking for Morrison connections in Clackmannanshire Kirkintilloch, Maryhill and Anderston - Cranston Street area. Especially interested in those who have middle name 'Young' appearing somewhere post 1830. My relatives so far include: John Morrison c 1780 - birthplace unconfirmed married Margaret Gillespie sons: John and Peter Peter Morrison c1810 born Clackmannanshire married Catherine Young born Forfar kids: Margaret, Elizabeth, John and Peter Young John Morrison c1831 possibly born in Kirkintilloch married Isabella Lang kids: Peter Young Morrison 13.05.1872 Peter Young Morrison 1872 married Rosina Scullion bn 21.08.1872 moved to Maryhill, Glasgow kids: Rosina (my Great Grandmother born 1899), Lena, Gilbert (born 1901), Mary and David (born 1907 killed in the sinking of the Athenia - 03/09/1939 - 1st Navy loss of World War 2) Rosina Morrison bn 17.10.1899 born 11 East John Street, Glasgow married Patrick Byrne born May 1898, Sligo Ireland daughter Rosina Byrne born 30.06.1923 Rosina Byrne 1923 resident Parkhouse Road, Nitshill, Glasgow married Samuel Shepherd 06/08/1922 sons: Stephen French Shepherd (my Dad 26.12.1947) Joseph Shepherd 1950 Stephen French Shepherd 1947 married Mary Hattie born 1950, Kirkintilloch Kids: Deborah (1976), Clare (1977), Andrew Stephen Morrison (1978), William (1980) and David Edward Samuel O'Donnell (1982). Strangely, my Father (who had no idea of the geographic connection) met & married my Mother, who's from Kirkintilloch and who's maternal family lived in a house, just a few doors away from the one related Morrisons had occupied a few decades earlier. I think the Morrison connection moved from Kirkintilloch along the Forth and Clyde Canal as the need for hand loom weavers diminished and heavy industry began (Kirkie, Maryhill, Central Glasgow). They later moved to the suburbs of Glasgow when the tenament slums in Anderston were cleared (possibly a ship-building connection here?) If any of the names or places above seem familiar, please let me know. I'm especially interested in the connection with the Canal that brought the Morrisons into Glasgow and away from Kirkintilloch. Thanks for reading such a long posting! good luck and best wishes Deborah
