I have been researching our family history and as a result of this we have found out that the man who brought me up was not my real father. My parents are now dead.
Through talking to older relatives we have managed to gain a few clues as to who my real father was. I know it is very vague but I will list it as follows

1. The first name is Peter surname not known.
2. He was conscripted from the south of England to work as a Bevin boy at Hickelton Main Colliery Thurnscoe Rotherham South Yorkshire.
3. He worked at Hickleton Main Colliery throughout the year of 1944
4. He lodged at an address known as 24 Deightonby Street Thurnscoe Rotherham South Yorkshire.
5. He left Hickleton Colliery and went back down south late 1944
I know the information is vague but we would grateful for any help you may give in tracing this person.

Tall order Ann.

I think the best lead is the address and I would contact the main library for Rotherham to see if they have the electoral roll for 1944. They may have some archive data on the colliery in question.
Try also any colliery museums for the area to see if they have anything.

Good hunting.

Thank you Lindsey.I have posted messages on there and had no replies so I thought that if I coudl get work records for 1944 I might be able to get some info off them. The actual Bevin Boy site does not have any info as to who the Bevin Boys were or any kind of list
