In one book of English surnames it stated that Oldrey is derived from the Anglo-saxon 'Ealdric' - meaning 'old king'. I suppose that after the Conquest it became more French - and evolved into Oldrieve, Oldry, Halloway, Alloway It seems to have originated in Devon.
