Trying to find Redding

I'm trying to trace my Grandmothers side of the family. She was born in 1900 possibly at Sea on the way back from South Africa (Probably via Gibraltor) Her father was Thomas (or is that Arthur Thomas) who was either in the mines, or something to do with gold(?) He settled in the Ealing (Middx) area, where she married my Grandfather. During the 2nd war, may father was evacuated to Risca in South Wales to stay with Aunt Olive and Uncle Howard, who we assume are on the Redding side. I am currently looking around the Ealing / Hanwell / Southall area of LOndon at the turn of the last Century. Anyone any clues?
