Wish to find out more about Charles Rudden born near Belterbet, County Cavan on the 4th August 1839. He enlisted in The Buffs at Sligo and in that regiment visited many parts of the world finally going to South Africa in 1877. His ship the St Lawrence was wrecked off Paternoster Point, his regiment was then transferred to a warship and taken to Cape Town and afterwards sent on to Natal arriving in Durban, South Africa in 1878. He served in the Zulu War and was mentioned in connection with the relief of Rorke's Drift. |
