My grandfather William Atkins married Emma Sanger in Cardiff Wales, either in the late 1800's or early 1900's. I do not know if she was a widow or not when she married him. she already had a son by the name of Stephen Sanger, who was always said to be the eldest brother in the Atkins family. Can anyone help? Grandfather was from Somerset it is said, so I THINK they married in Cardiff as that is where they lived when my father was born. He was called Redvers Henry Atkins.

I cannot find them in 1901, although they should be together ... somewhere!!!

Your father's birth is registered at Cardiff Dec1901 and there is also a Bertha E.E.Atkins mothers maiden name Sanger whose birth is registered at Cardiff December 1912. Irene

If you get the birth certificates, it will tell you the mother's maiden name


The marriage certificate will tell you her maiden name, and a previous married name if she had been married before.


It will also tell you the fathers' names and occupations, so you can follow them back on the censuses
