SIMON - I have always wondered how my forbears became established in Ireland, as it is obviously not a native Irish name. Recently my attention was drawn to the following entry on the web. '[The Irish Pensioners of William III's Huguenot Regiments, 1702.(From Huguenot Society of London Proceedings, Vol. 6, No. 3, Nov. 1899). An abstract of the examination of the French Pensioners now on the Civil List of the establishment of Ireland - Galloway's Regiment (Disbanded 1698-99). No.298 Lt. SIMOND 2nd Com.; Allow. 2s per diem; Served 13 yrs in Holland, Flanders & Ireland; Substance 50/-; Family; able to serve]'. |
