I was beginning to suspect that might be the case as well!

I'm confused about the marriages of my Great-Great Grandfather John Edwards.

I have him on the 1871 Census at 4 Shepperds Passage, Boston with a wife Ann (b. c1840) and son John Holmes, daughters Annie and Elizabeth.

In 1881 he is at 4 King St, Boston with wife Maud (?) (b. c1838) son John (by now Edwards) Annie, Elizabeth, Charles, Seth, Minnie, Walter (my Great Grandfather) and George.

In 1891 I have him living at 1 Fowls Passage with wife Maria (b. c1841) and children Charles, Smith (poss Seth?), Minnie and Walter.

In the tree that I 'inherited' from my Aunt, Walter's mother is listed as Maria Holmes, She had sisters, Susan, Ann and Ellen. It seems odd that in 1871 John's son is listed as John Holmes, when it appears that he was born prior to his marriage to Maria.

If anyone out there in GR land can shed any light on John's marriages and who Walter's mother was I would be most grateful.
