Anyone know how to trace members of Jesse Dann's family, from Hastings and surrounding area, prior to 1771? I got his b/day from early census records but I'm now stuck and can't go back any further. What's my next move? |

Try Sussexweald site - you might find something on there. |

Thanks Jill. Had a look but unfortunately Hastings does not appear to be included. Must be outside the area designated Weald? |

You say you got his b'day from early census records but I can't see him on 1841 or 51. |

Sorry. misinformation. The family, including wife Rhoda and son John, are in the 1841 census. Jesse appears to have been listed as John also, maybe a mistake by the enumerator or perhaps he was known as John. It is certainly the right family and his age calculates to a b/day of 1771. Familysearch.org has Jesse and Rhoda's marriage as 1794. There are a number of Jesse Dann baptism records but the closest record which of course may not be the correct one, shows a baptism date of 1773. I am continuing to investigate. |
