Anyone know how to trace members of Jesse Dann's family, from Hastings and surrounding area, prior to 1771? I got his b/day from early census records but I'm now stuck and can't go back any further. What's my next move?

Try Sussexweald site - you might find something on there.

Thanks Jill. Had a look but unfortunately Hastings does not appear to be included. Must be outside the area designated Weald?

You say you got his b'day from early census records but I can't see him on 1841 or 51.

Sorry. misinformation. The family, including wife Rhoda and son John, are in the 1841 census. Jesse appears to have been listed as John also, maybe a mistake by the enumerator or perhaps he was known as John. It is certainly the right family and his age calculates to a b/day of 1771. Familysearch.org has Jesse and Rhoda's marriage as 1794. There are a number of Jesse Dann baptism records but the closest record which of course may not be the correct one, shows a baptism date of 1773. I am continuing to investigate.
