Hi Margaret and Sylvia,

Imagine my surprise when I have a quick look if anyone as answered my query and there are 20 replies! Fantastic, I feel so lucky.

My link is with George Smith 1831 Holy Island and know wife is Margaret. Not sure who gave me maiden name Hall, but comes from Norham. Looking through my records there was thoughts that her maiden name might have been Bolton. I also remember coming across two George Smiths from Holy Island over 1831-1832

His daughter Margaret 1862 marries into my Maughan line, which is my mothers maiden name and a signifant part of my family tree.

Are you able to see if you can find Bolton/ Smith marriage?
George Smith's parents were John Smith 1807 and Sarah Tait
1881 census has Margaret b1843 so she is rather old to amrry and have kids for her generation.

Thanks for all your hard work

Yes! There is a Margaret Bolton on the 1851 census who was born 1834, Norham. She's a servant in Norham.

Just found out why Sylvia and I couldn't find Norham, Northumberland last night on the 41 census, they decided to put it in Durham!
1841 census
Norham, Durham
Mary Bolton, 70
Thomas, 30, ag lab
Agnes, 25
George, 25, ag lab
Gideon, 20, ag lab
Margaret, 7
William, 5
Peter, 4 months

Now, there's a line between the last 3 and the rest as if they're not all one family but the 3 children wouldn't be alone, and in 1841 they don't give relationships.
