Find Ancestors

Hi all
I am looking for a GRO number for the marriage of Edward Rothwell FODEN and Mary WORTHINGTON. They were not married in the 1871 census, and their eldest child was born in Stretford/Manchester, Lancashire in 1877. I have checked on ancestry but cannot find the marriage. I noted from the birth certificates of two of his children that Edward did not always use his middle name.
I am trying to narrow down the options for their parent's names and intend applying for the marriage certificate in order to discover their respective father's names.
Any help would be appreciated.

Janine, when you say you have looked on Ancestry do you mean you have checked each quarter on the Full Index or just the partial index. They are not on FreeBMD so may not have been transcribed yet. What was the name of the child born in 1877?

1870s seem to be 100% transcribed on freebmd - maybe they didn't marry or maybe they married after the children were born.

Thank you all for the quick responses. I have the birth certificate for Clara Foden (daughter of Mary and Edward) and she was born in 1877 (12th May). I wondered whether Mary and Edward married after her birth but on the certificate it records Mary as a Foden formerly Worthington, so I guess they must have been married by the time her birth was registered on 4th June 1877.
I have checked both partial indexed and the full marriage lists on ancestry, but cannot find them. I am stumped.

If mary was a widow by chance then perhaps her name wasnt Worthington on marriage,,but is correct on birth certificate of child as her maiden name,,,,,,,,
