Susan Report 7 Feb 2008 19:00

My great-grandmother, Agnes Stokes, was born 1 March 1877 in Dublin. Her father was Frederick Stokes, born at sea on HMS Eveline. His father, who was in the Argyll and Bute militia, was Isaiah Stokes, born Ireland c1828.
As Isaiah & Frederick were seafarers, they have been very hard to track down. Isaiah only surfaces in Campbeltown in 1871 & 1881. Frederick is with his family in 1871, and is to be found in Barony, Lanark aged 24 in 1881. Fred married Mary Jordan at some point and also died too (!) but where? Isaiah married English Emma SPEAR in 1855 in Guernsey. They also had children Elenor (1867) and Alexander (1867). I cannot find Agnes in any censuses at all.
If anyone has Stokes/Dublin roots and recognises any of these people, please get in touch!
Thank you,
Susan
