I believe GRO indexes only start from 1837 so I think its down to Parish registrars

Does that mean I can't write in to GRO with the details? I know I can't do it online but, thought maybe if I wrote to them that would be OK.

Thanks

Civil registration started on the first of July 1837 so you cannot get a cert from before that date. In Scotland it was Jan 1st 1855.

You would have to check the parish records for a baptism, you might well find a baptism date but not an exact date of birth.

Sorry Mary but you won't be able to get a birth cert from GRO You need to find out what area they were born in and then check to find out where the Parish Registrars for that area are kept

Hi Wendy, I know he was born in Bristol in 1829, just not sure what Parish that may be. I'll have to ask around.

Thanks for helping.
