Advice with birth cert. please

Hi, Can anyone tell me how I can get a birth cert. for someone born in 1829. I've tried on GRO but, they say I needdistrict No. etc., Any help would be appreciated. |

I believe GRO indexes only start from 1837 so I think its down to Parish registrars |

Does that mean I can't write in to GRO with the details? I know I can't do it online but, thought maybe if I wrote to them that would be OK. |

Civil registration started on the first of July 1837 so you cannot get a cert from before that date. In Scotland it was Jan 1st 1855. |

Sorry Mary but you won't be able to get a birth cert from GRO You need to find out what area they were born in and then check to find out where the Parish Registrars for that area are kept |

Hi Wendy, I know he was born in Bristol in 1829, just not sure what Parish that may be. I'll have to ask around. |
