Find Ancestors

Im struggling to locate the parents/family of Norman Arthur Wilkins who married Marjorie Rose Abraham in Eccles, Lancs around 1945

Norman was born in the 20's & died around 1972/3 i think in Salford.
Norman & Marjorie had 2 daughters - Marjorie Rose Wilkins b1950 & Rita Wilkins b1952 - They lived at Belper Road, Peel Green, Eccles

Norman may have had a brother David Wilkins & sister Mona

Also, My mother has left the name Sutcliffe written against Normans line & i cant understand why.... Could this be a relative of the above people ?

All are of the Lancashire/Eccles areas.

Any suggestions of where i should look next please ?

You will need to find the marriage reg'n, and purchase the cert, to find out Norman's declared age........plus the name and occupation of his father.

You can use that info to trace his birth.........thus learning his mother's name.

I presume you have checked freebmd for a possible birth? Some areas have been transcribed a little after 1920...........

Would it be possible to get any info from the census records on Wilkins & Clayton for the Salford area of Manchester ?

1901 is last available census.........to make a worthwhile search, names of the individuals will be needed. Find the marriage of the parents, and obtain the cert, to establish their ages, and names of their respective fathers.

Searching merely for the surnames would not be a good idea...........guessing when doing genealogy can lead one very much astray.

You need their marriage cert - it will give you the father's names, ocupation and ages when they married.

This birth is in the 'right' district.....but you can't be sure it's the right person until you find from the marriage cert how old she was on her wedding day

Ruth Sutcliffes Father was Charles Sutcliffe & mother Elizabeth ?

Could we possibly check the marriage or census records for these people too ?

Joanne you need to buy some certs before you can go back any further . Ruth Sutcliffe could have been born anywhere & anytime between around 1880 & 1906.

The marriage cert for Ruth will tell you the occupation of her father also her age at the time of her marriage
