the marriage of Alfred Henry Rooms. He was born 1895 Coventry. At first I was not sure of his wife but heresay from family indicated that it might be Ida and that she had a scots accent. I then hit a bit of luck and discovered that in 1933/34 Alfred lived 87 Ransom Road, Coventry. I am extremely lucky in that an email to Coventry Central Library Family Studies section resulted in them providing me with the names of the occupants of that house in 1933 and yes, it was Alfred Henry Rooms and wife Ida Aderina Rooms. As Alfred was born 1895 I would estimate the marriage to be any time after 1914/15 BUT I do not have a clue as to Ida's maiden name. I have tried Freebmd but nothing at all comes up. Is there a way that on Ancestry you can put in grooms name and then the christian names of the bride in order to search ? I have a friend who has ancestry subscription and I could drive to her house and ask her to look if someone could guide me as to how to go about it. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you can understand what I am getting at. |

If nothing comes up on FreeBMD then the marriage hasn't been transcribed by them yet. |

Thanks Kathleen. I'll have to pop to my friends sometime today or tomorrow and see if she/we can have a go at this. |

Do you know if they had any children? searching for the mothers maiden name is alot quicker than a marriage if you know appox year of birth |

Could have just had a breakthrough I think. Wendy (above) asked about children. It was thought that Ida had at least two girls - one Betty and one Jessie. I've just gone onto freebmd and inputted 'Births'/'Rooms'/Coventry and lo and behold a Betty A. Rooms came up born 1921 !!.... mothers maiden name Lennie, so could it be Ida Aderina Lennie. Tried again on freebmd for marriage - still nothing. |

I've searched for a marriage from 1913 to 1921 and I haven't found anything yet. |

Re possible Ida Aderina LENNIE?? As she was possibly a mother by 1921 I thought I would try and locate her via the 1901 census so on the front page of genes I inputted her name and ... there were no results. With Ida having a Scots accent does this mean she was born there and will only appear on their records for birth, marriage and census. Oh God, this gets even harder. |

They married in Scotland in 1918. You can get the details from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (it's a pay per view site but the basic free search shows that there is a marriage of an Alfred Rooms & Ida Lennie in 1918). |

There's also one Rooms surname birth in Scotland, in 1920. Probably another child of Alfred & Ida? |
