Hi, can anyone help please. I've been advised by a very helpful member to ask if anyone with ancestry.com could kindly look up the image of Catherina Schwachler for me on immigration. |

Sorry Ann, will have to ask the person who gave me the link. She was born 1860 in Germany, first seen on 1881 UK census and married in 1884 in Sunderland, England. |

Hi - Im the one who found it through a google search but ancestry.com wont let me view the details. I dont think its your girl as Im pretty sure in the quick flash that came up it said born abt 1825 or 35 but may be a rellie I guess with that name. It was the only one which came up. |

You say she was married in 1884 in Sunderland. So was Schwachler her maiden name or married? |

Just checked and Schwachler was her maiden name so she didn't emigrate under that name. She married John Clark or Charles Thomas Stokoe. |

Margaret, Thanks for looking, but I had the census stuff and even have Katherina and John Clark's childrens' births and baptism entries. She is recorded as Catherine, Kate etc. She was my Gr Gr Grandmother, and my Dad would love to know where she came from, as he spent five years in Germany in the RAF. I am looking into the background of George Kuch, the German pork buthcher she was a servant for in 1881 in Northumberland. Like Heather said, she may've come to North Shields with that family. Heather even found her daughter (b.and d.1881 in Newcastle) for me. |

Forgot to say, I knew there was a Herman Schwachler on 1880 New York census b. 1850 Germany. I suppose he was a relative of Catherina b. about 1835? She seemed a bit young to be his mother but who knows? |

I was very confused by this thread, too. I understood that Kathrina had gone to New York after her marriage. That's why I was questioning maiden or married name. |

Thanks to all. Sorry if you're confused, but as I said I'm looking for Schwachlers from Germany. Heather found one b. 1825 or 1835 as it flashed up on Ancestry and suggested I ask here for help. As we both said, this Catherine, (who went to America) may be a relative of MY Katherina Schwachler b. 1860. I shall have to make any future postings very long and explicit? I'm obviously very new to this game. |
