There are several things you can do to help yourself, find your grandfathers birth certificate that should give your ggrans maiden name , then find their marriage which should give their parents and ages, then chase around the censuses looking for father and son names together .

I am researching my family tree, My great grand father douglas was died in action WW1 1915, he had sons Thomas (My grandad) and Arthur

our family always thought he came from scotland, but appears it maybe related to a watson family in Langham Colchester, essex
