I have had a look at the full list of naval casualties for both ships and whilst he doesn't appear on the casualty list for the Jervis Bay he does appear as missing presumed dead off the Medoc which was an ex-coaster siezed from France and originally of Polish origin.
If you know how old your relative was would give you some clue as to which one is the right one based on his rate at time of death.
The fact that a JT Baldwin is listed on the CWGC site as being on both Jervis Bay and Medoc is fasicnating - especially as we have two service numbers, both issued by different home bases

I have had another look and there is a JT Baldwin listed on the Jervis Bay, i stand corrected as it doesnt appear on one of the casualty lists I have...do you know where he live prior to enlistment as again that might give you some clues. The Jervis Bay Baldwin has a Chatham service number whilst the Medoc has a Devonport (Plymouth) service number

CWGC Commonwealth War Graves Commission established by Royal Charter in 1917 to commeorate the war dead, they have recorded the deaths of almost 2 million people who have died in the two world wars on over 2500 memorials and monuments. Have a peek at their site:

http://www.cwgc.org/default.asp

You can search the site for relatives and print of a certificate to commemorate your relative.

Yes he could have married in Chatham and maybe even in the dockyard church, which was constructed in 1810,you can get the church at:

The Dockyard Church
Dock Road
Chatham
Kent
ME4 4TZ

and they may be able to confirm from their records if he married there
