Member Since: February 2007 Posts: 6 Send Message	My Grandmother Jane was an Osmond before she married a Tom Follett in 1910. I have her birth and marriage certificates but have come to a halt going back further than her Mother Susan Osmond.They resided in the Dorchester Dorset area. Any help would be appreciated.

Member Since: February 2007 Posts: 6 Send Message	Hi Lyn, Thank you for replying so quickly. Susan Osmond was the Daughter of George Osmond and Jane. On my Grandmothers birth certificate 1873 there is no Father but on her marriage certificate 1910 her father is listed as George Osmond

Member Since: February 2007 Posts: 6 Send Message	Hi Wendy, My Grandmother was born in Cerne Abbas Workhouse 1873 this was on her birth certificate but I cannot find her name on the workhouse website as an inmate.

	If there is no father named on the birth certificcate, then it means that she was illegitimate. The fact that she names George on her marriage certificate actually means very little ........ many illegitimate children name a father on their marriage certificate because it looked better for the other family, and they didn't ahve to provide proof that there really was a father. They soemtimes used a name that meant something to them .. grandfather, stepfather, family friend, etc ........... or sometimes a completely made-up name. They could say he was deceased, and they often gave him an occupation. Andy's find does look persuasive!! You have George as the name of her stepfather! sylvia
