Please could anyone help me trace John Charles Johnson. I have his marriage certificate to Elizabeth Boswell on 7th February 1886 in St Peter's Church Birmingham. he is age 29 and his father's name is Thomas Johnson.

I also have him on the 1881 Census living at 16 Charles Henry Street with the Caldicotts and his father who is widowed.

Can anyone find him before 1881 as I am trying to find out where he wwas born and his mothers name so I can get his birth certificate.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Rutland Belle

There are no John Charles Johnsons born in Aston on BMD around the time he was born, or at least none that I found.

Got to go now but will check back tomorrow lunchtime. If anyone can find Thomas and John Charles Johnson before 1881 I would be gratefull of any information as I have tried on many occasions and just cannot find anything.

Thanks Julie and Rutland Belle for the info so far.

Alison, I know what you mean, John and Thomas seem to have appeared out of nowhere!! I just can't find them anywhere. On later census returns it just says Birmingham for place of birth of John. As you say there are no John Charles in the index only John.
I'll keep looking, Jennifer

I also looked for most of last night and found nothing. I had a thought that Thomas may have had two names and have been known by another on earlier census but got nowhere with that.

John Charles birth year seems to vary between 1856 and 59 in the various census, but that hasn't helped much. The only other thought is that John Charles was only registered as John and there are births of about 3 John's between 1856-9 in the Aston and Birmingham Reg District!

Good Luck and will also keep looking Kay

You are both real stars. I have been trying on and off on this one for ages and never get any further.

I might try ordering some John Johnson birth certificates with Thomas as a reference check and see if they throw up anything.

Thanks for all your help

If you do find anything and cannot find this thread then please e.mail me.

Thanks for that K. I was wondering if his mother had died in child birth. It's loveley to see them before 1881 as noone who had helped me before had managed to find them.

I guess William and Elizabeth must have died in the years between census. There are so many Elizabeth Johnsons who died in Birmimgham in those years I guess I will never find out what she died from.

Thanks again I really appreciate it as well as the message you sent.
