Can anyone help me find the service records of John he was in the York and Lancaster regiment but I have no idea which battles he fought in.
I have searched the website of army records and cannot find anything of him.
Any information would be very much appreciated.

You can't, I'm afraid! I assume you meant he was born 1890, not that he was in the Army in 1890? , and therefore he was in WW1?You should be able to get his medal card on the documentsonline site. His service records might be on Ancestry in the "Pension" records. If not, then they may still be at National Archives in Kew - these records are gradually being added to Ancestry, but you might have a bit of a wait. Or, they may not survive - lots of WW1 service records don't.

Yes he was born 1890 but his family know no other than he was in york and lancs regiment, he did survive the war so I am finding it harder to trace him

So the places I mentioned are your best bet. You could contact the museum for the regiment, if there is one. They won't hold detailed personal information, but might have something on him.

If they are not on Ancestry, they may be at National Archives Kew, as I said. If they are not there, then they didn't survive. The museum might have a little info as I said before.

If you've looked on Ancestry and they are not there, then you need to go to Kew or get someone to go for you, or wait until the rest of the WW1 service records go on to the site. Might be a long wait.
