Find Ancestors

Please help me and my newly found relative in oz (who i found through GR) we have no record of our ggfather we cannot find birth or death certificates, or even burial even though his wife and family are all buried together, he married mary hannah gee in 1882 in lancashire and had 9/10 children the last being twins (my grandfather and his sister) born in 1903, we cannot find any info anywhere of him from 1901 any info would be much appreciated. regards max

Did he have a middle name? There is this birth:-

I think Hoxton is in the Shoreditch registration district.

Do you have any idea when he was last known to be alive - at one of his children's marriages for example? If not it will be a very long job to go through the death index quarter by quarter for every year up to about the 1950's or even later as he could have lived anything up to 1960 ish. and it's quite a common name.

Thanks for the replying so quickly Kath, all I have is a record of him on the 1901 census, and his last children (twins) were born in 1903 I have info on his wife's burial and father's (they were buried in the same grave) but I have absolutely nothing on him and my 2nd cousin who I recently found through GR who lives in oz has applied for approximately 20 death certificates which have all been unsuccessful, any help would be much appreciated as we are at a loss max x

Where was he in 1901? What was his wife called? If he can be traced backwards to an earlier census he may give a different birthplace.

in 1901 he live at 5 Bk Greek st, Manchester, he was 40 and a card board cutter his wife was Mary Hannah Taylor (Nee Gee) who was 37, his son was James Gee Taylor aged 18, son Frederick aged 16, son Richard aged 13, son William aged 10, daugher Lillian aged 8, son Walter aged 5, daughter Ada aged 2, In 1903 there were twins Ernest and Rose I have just received info on trying to find a James Richard Taylor born in Shoreditch in 1860 and died in Chorlton in 1914 which would make sense but I cannot honestly say whether he had a middle name as I have no record of it even on his marriage certificate thank you again max x

The unmarried Mary Taylor could be James's mother (although it doesn't give a relationship) just that all the Taylors are lodgers.

No, James Richard born in Shoreditch 1860 is not "our" James(it was I
think, the first birth cert. I sent for).

Apart from the fact that Taylor is a name that is akin to looking for
needles in haystacks----there is something ODD about James and his
early entries in the census. In 1861 there is a 2 year old Henry but no
James-- in the 1871 census there is no Henry but there is a 12 year old
James!!!

I'll be waiting to hear if anything has turned up.
