Thanks Margaret, that's helpful.

Not sure I should keep tracking both familes back or give it up as a myth :(

This one's yours in 1871:
110 Noble St., Great Bolton, Lancashire
Thomas Whittle, head, 42, overlooker cotton weaver, born Brindle
Margaret, wife, 38
Edward, son, 18, cotton weaver
Moses, son, 16, cotton weaver
Ellen, dau, 15, cotton warper
Jane, dau, 9, scholar
Wife & children born Bolton.

Update, Our messages crossed, so this isn't your family after all.

Thanks Margaret, I just did my maths! lol. Also Margaret's birth place differs.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been working backwards from an 1921 marriage cert from Robert Whittle c1863. Family rumour said he was grandfather to Frank Whittle b1907

We now know that Frank's father was Moses. So I was trying to work back to find a connection but I think now that perhaps it was just family folklore.

Thanks for the interest,

Selena .

It's evidently a different Thomas & Margaret on the 2 censuses. Thomas is 32 in 1861 and 27 in 1871. Margaret is 28 then 25.
In 1871 Thomas is son-in-law to Martin McGee, meaning Margaret was Margaret McGee.

Thanks Julie.

Unfortunately the only certificate I have is Frank Whittle born Coventry June 1907, parents Moses and Sarah Alice (nee Garlick).

Tracking Moses back to 1901 he is with his father, also called Moses and mother Catherine. Moses born c1883.

There is an extracted record for Moses the Elder on the IGI born 1854 Brindle, Lancs, parents Thomas & Margaret (this ties in with the 1861).

I am trying to confirm the link between the 1861 family and the following family on 1871.

1871

Name: Robert Wm Whittle
Age: 7

Thank you Julie. Does it give any indication of how William Wood is connected to the family?

Also I am trying to narrow down when they got married as there are several Thomas's marrying Margarets.

Sorry if I don't reply straight away, daughter needs computer for homework soon.

Could any kind soul please find Moses Whittle on the 1861. Moses was born June 1854 and his parents should be Thomas and Margaret.

Many thanks,

Selena
