Iv'e just looked for you and their are an awful lot of Martin dieing under 5 in the south wark area so I think the only way you are likely to find out is to find the baptism records for the ones you do know about and look in the parish registers in the gap to see if their are any others baptised to the same parents.
Not sure where the southwark ones are held.

Ivy Report 13 Feb 2008 20:35

Hi suzi,

that's true - Jean, you could look for a marriage of John and Sarah on FreeBMD between 1871 and 1878; also the family on 1871 to see if the wife's details still match - and if not, for the death of the first wife.

Logging off

Suzi-Wong

Suzi-Wong Report 13 Feb 2008 20:33

Could be Sarah was second wife..hence age gap..!

Yes Ivy thats the family {my great grand parents} Jean.

Ivy

Ivy Report 13 Feb 2008 20:30

If you have ancestry, you can look for deaths between 1871 and 1881, surname Martin, reg dist St Saviour Southwark; you can also specify that the birth must be between 1871 and 1881.

This technique can't be used before around 1865 since the age at death is not included in the index.

Suzi-Wong

Suzi-Wong Report 13 Feb 2008 20:29

Try checking censuses for 1871 and 1881....where were the family living? Have you checked freebmd?
Find deaths of all siblings and see who registered them.
