can anyone help he was married to a hilda whitehead then disappeared

he may have remarried and had more children can anyone find a likely marriage his first marriage happened in 1939 if that helps and he left a few years later.

probably remained in oldham rochdale area, he died in 1976. if no luck with buy death cert to see wifes name, but in the meantime any help gratefully received thanks

I'm not sure if this is a match, but my grandfather was William Buckley, born in 1905, and his father was James Buckley. William had a brother called Ben who would have been born around 1907, but I have not got a birth certificate yet to check the date. The family lived in the Balderstone area of Rochdale, on the Oldham Road. I have further information about the Buckley family but not about Ben himself.

the death cert would be where i would start ,even if its not a wife registering it it may be a child of another marriage.

Thanks for your information. I have followed it up and the sequence seems to be:
- 1939 Ben Buckley married Hilda Whitehead at St Paul's Oldham (CE236/6/450).
- 1940 Annie Hatton married Harry Potts at Oldham Register Office (APZ/1/11),
- 1944 Harry Potts killed whilst serving in the Lancashire Fusiliers (Army no. 3454204, volume 3 page 259).
- 1947 Ben Buckley married Annie Potts (Hatton) at Oldham Register Office (RM/22A/113).
- I don't know what happed to Ben and Hilda's marriage, either Hilda died or they divorced between 1939 and 1947.

Note that there were two Ben Buckleys on the birth register for Oct/Nov/Dec 1907:
- Ben Buckley, Castleton No. 1, Rochdale, 8e 15.
- Ben Buckley, Oldham, 8d 671.

My great uncle is more likely to be the former (8e 15), whilst Denise's Ben Buckley could be either. The certificates should give the answer.

I now have the death certificate for Ben Buckley:
- Date and place of death: 27/10/1976 at 225 Broad Lane, Rochdale
- Informant: Jean Buckley, widow of deceased
- Date and place of birth: 11/02/1907 in Rochdale.

This Ben is likely to be my great uncle, and the Ben mentioned in previous postings (married to Hilda, then Annie) could be the Ben that Denise is researching.
