face of the earth. The latest one to hide is William Cotton b. 1833/4. I have him on 1851 census age 18 living at home 8 William Street, Bishopwearmouth, Co. Durham with widowed mother and brother. I have found his marriage in December 1854 to Rosina Dixon and have also found the young couple and their baby George at 1 Slaters?, Bishop St, Stockton, but can I find them after that? No way - unless I am blind they don't seem to be anywhere on 1871 or 1881 census. What the heck am I doing wrong?

Hi Margaret,

I cannot see him either, although there is a William Cotton b1840 who was a master mariner and listed as married. Maybe it is the same one?

No sign of him on the 1871 census, maybe he was away at sea.

I think this is maybe a relative of his. Is there no sign of wife Rosina and son George or any other children that may have arrived after the 1861 census? I am perplexed.

I am now going off to have the family meal, so please do not think I am ignorant if I do not respond to any replies for a while. Thank you

Hi Margaret - that does indeed look like son George and reg. in right place, Sunderland. I am making a note of the other information regarding William and Rosina Cotton as visitors, but the place of birth is way out. Thank you for your help.
