Death of Jane and William Russell

I've not been able to find the deaths of my GG Grandparents William and Jane Russell.
They were living in Gravesend Kent in the 1851 census and in 1855 William was deceased on his sons marriage certificate. I haven't found Jane on the 1861 census so I assume she had died too.
William was born 1786 Staffs
Jane was born 1795 Shropshire
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These should be on freebmd........the problem with pinning them down may be that until late 1860's, ages at death were not on the index.

There are quite a few William and Jane Russell deaths in Kent area in the period 1851-1861. Some are in Dartford area which is close to Gravesend, but difficult to pinpoint which is yours.

There's thing one (not in Gravesend district but not too far away). Maybe he was in hospital or visiting someone when he died:-

Name: William Russell
Year of Registration: 1853
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Medway (1837-1941)
County: Kent
Volume: 2a
Page: 218

There are other deaths in Kent too.

Could Jane have married again?

Thanks Reggie Laptop and Kath. This is my problem. Its such a common name. I've already sent for 3 or 4 wrong certs for both of them. The one you suggest Kath is one of them. My only hope is if someone lives in Gravesend and would kindly look in the records for me if thats possible.
Thanks again

It might be worth asking for NBI lookups........check first on their website to ensure that they have transcribed the area/years you need.........

In the September qtr. of 1854 on the complete index on Ancestry there is a death reference squashed in (as an afterthought) for a William George Russell. It is very squashed and faint but it could be Gravesend and the volume number is 2a which would be correct. The page number is illegible though.

Could this be him?

Perhaps someone with credits for Findmypast could check for you.

Hi Kath

Thanks for your help. I've looked on Free BMD at that entry They have transcribed it as William Henry Russell and the district as Cranbrook. I agree with you it could be Gravesend. How could someone find it on findmypast?

I just thought the page number might be clearer on Findmypast.

I've just had another look at the entry and increased the size as much as I can and it does seem to be Cranbrook, Definitely William George though and not William Henry.
