I'm looking at a Scotland's People birth register for 1816.

In one column the words:

Relief

Burgher

Congregation

are listed. Is this the name of the religion?

If so I'm up with Congregational Church but what do the others stand for?

thanks Walter

Tell me which record you are looking at and I will have a look .
I am in a fhs which has every parish record so I can easily look at the film .

sorry to take so long but we ha people come in the shop.
The headings on the register are
parents name of child witnesses residence

so
Charles Brown and Agnes Cochrane
Charles
Relief congregation
St Ninians

The church of Scotland underwent disruption and I am no expert but what I gather from this entry is that they were a splinter group of the church of scotland .
