Jull - I have searched the 1881 census - I have the discs - and there is not one Harriet born 1846/7/8 Whittlesey which is the birthplace indicated on 1871 census. Do you have the 1861 census and does that also give the birthp[lace as Whittlesey. Unfortunately sometimes, our relatives put down different places as their birth place on different census returns which doesn't help when searching for them.

hiya Margaret,
thank you for taking the time to look for me.
In 1861 Harriett is a servant and yes she has put born whittlesey.
and in the 51 census she is named as Hepshebah living as a lodger aged 3 and her father and brother both James are a few doors away. Her mother Eliza died a few days after Harriett was born.

yes Barbara ive looked and looked at that thinking could that be Harriett the daughter, but i dont think so.James was born 1810 stanground huntingdon a brickmaker all his life, and died in1892 in Boston workhouse.(his age did change alot through the census)
I think i will go back and look for marriages and deaths again for Harriett Fletcher (nee Bellamy) i havent been able to find anything so far but will double check it.

Jill - Ive looked on freebmd for a marriage for Harriet Fletcher and have not been successful as yet. Will keep trying. Just noticed the birthplace given for Harriet Manning is Grantham not Whittlesey !!

Hi Jim,
James is with his daughter Harriett in 1871 census,
I didnt think that Harriett Manning who he is with in 1881 and 1891 could be his daughter because theres like a 20 year age difference in the 1891.

Are you thinking it could be?

Just gone through 1881 discs again and on the basis of the info above re Harriet Manning, I unputted 'Harriet b. 1846/7/48 born Grantham. Only two came up: a Harriet Mumby b. Grantham living Cleethorpes and a Harriet Panton b. Grantham living Manthorpe Cum Little Gowerby, Lincolnshire. I am getting to be at a loss of where to look next !!

thank you so much Margaret.

i looked on 1871 census and found harriett manning listed as a visitor (married) so i think its sorted that the harriett james is with in 1881 and 91 isnt his daughter.
like you im at a loss now where to go from here, just another Bellamy mystery i guess.

once again its really appreciated that you have all took the time to look for me.
Jill (nee Bellamy)

Jill - to pile on the misery, I have done extensive search on Freebmd for a remarriage of Harriet Bellamy - not one came up from 1871 until 1896, so tried Hahshebah Bellamy - nothing at all. Then wondered if she died. Tried again - no Harriet Bellamy of the right age. Did find one right area in 1872 aged 25 but your Harriet would have been older by then. Thinking caps need to be put on I think. Don't give up - it may be solved in the end !!
