Could anyone suggest how to find inquest details or maybe a newpaper article about the suicide of William Stephen Burnett in Aberdeen on 14th May 1912.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Julia

You need to contact the records office for old Coronial records give details and they will tell you if they hold the case papers, if so you might have to get a letter from the Coronor before you can view but being so long ago it might not be necessary, my family suicide was 1944 so I had to get permission to view the file.

Thank you both some much for your replies. I have quite a bit of detail from Scotlandspeople - the usual statutory death notice and a page from the Register of Corrected Entries which confirmed it was a suicide. I think I will try the library first to see if there was anything in the newspapers, he was described as a Justice of the Peace Officer (policeman?) so there may be a write up.

Thanks again

Lynne

No Coroners or Inquests in Scotland. There may have been a Fatal Accident Enquiry. You may need to check out the Sheriff Court records or maybe even National Archives of Scotland.

Thank you for that also Denis - if I can't get anything from the newpapers will try some of the other suggestions.

Thanks

Hi

I suggest you contact Mhairi Queen of Scots who has a thread "Anyone Want a Scotsman Look Up".

I have just nudged it so it should be on page 1 or 2 of the records Office List.

Good hunting.
