Hi

Is everyone having the same problem or is it just me.
Have found over a dozen errors already on my family surnames including totally wrong surnames.

Ancestry also have many transcription errors on their censuses. On both sites you can fill in error reports. I notice tho' that on the 1911 census you can report errors on all aspects of the entry not just the surname as on Ancestry so I suppose that's a bonus. Would agree that its unreasonable to suggest that you should always pay for the transcription before viewing the original - we're not made of money.

Hi

You would expect a few, which after all the names they transcribe is going to happen.
But when you get as many as i have had in such a short space of time it starts to get a bit silly.
The best one so far is mother has her new married surname and her children by first marriage are clearly stated as having their old surname on the original form.
However they are transcribed as having her new surname.
Its not even a mis read letter.
