Hi, I would love to find any descendents of the family of Robert Jones born Dolwyddelan and his daughter Sarah who married David Evans and lived at Bontuchaf. My great grandmother was the daughter of David's son, David David Evans. I would appreciate any help in tracing any descendents of this branch of the family. Thanks for listening Annette

You need to put some dates ... asking for help with Evans and Jones in Wales is a tall order even with dates ...

Thank you Jill for replying. I realise that it is a very tall order that I could trace any descendent of mine but one can hope. Thank you for the pointers as to how to use the site properly, Annette

for the record
Dolwyddelan, Welsh language : 'the meadow of Gwyddelan', is a village and community in Conwy county borough, north Wales, on the main A470 road between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Betws-y-Coed. The name of the village translates as "Gwyddelan's meadow", referring to the 5th or 6th century Saint Gwyddelan, after whom the parish church is named.
According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, 55.1% of the residents of the town could speak Welsh.
The village is particularly noted for Dolwyddelan Castle, the reputed birthplace of Prince Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (Llywelyn the Great). It has a railway station on the Conwy Valley Line.
Nearby mountains include Moel Siabod to the north, Moel Penamnen and Y Ro Wen to the south and, further afield, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) lies approximately 10 miles to the west. Carreg Alltrem, a crag used by many rock climbers, can be found about a mile south of the village.

Ann ... what on earth is all that??
Robert Jones was apparently the great-grandfather of Annette's great-grandmother, as I read the opening post.
Robert Jones his daughter Sarah Jones married David Evans their son was David Evans his daughter was Annette's great-grandmother
making Robert Jones Annette's greatx4 grandfather, and thus quite likely pre-census and pre-registration. No way to know for sure without at least one little bitty date, though?

JONES , OWEN GETHIN ( Gethin ; 1816 - 1883 ), local historian ; b. 1 May 1816 at Tyn-y-cae , Penmachno, Caerns. , to Owen and Grace Jones . The father was a stone mason , and the son was brought up in that craft, but later on became a carpenter , then a builder , and finally a contractor on a fairly large scale. He m. ( 1843 ) Ann (d. 1873 ), daughter of Robert Jones , a very well-known drover , of Bwlch Bach , Dolwyddelan . In 1852 he bought the holding of Tyddyn Cethin , and transformed the homestead and its land alike. With all this business ability, Gethin was a good littérateur , a poet of some mark, and especially a well-informed local historian , as is shown by his printed parish histories of Penmachno , Ysbyty Ifan , and Dolwyddelan . He was paralysed at the beginning of 1882 , and d. 29 Jan. 1883 . In 1884 a volume entitled Gweithiau Gethin was published; it includes the histories mentioned above, and has a biographical introduction on which the present note is based.
Author: Emeritus Professor Robert Thomas Jenkins, C.B.E., D.Litt., Ll.D., F.S.A., (1881-1969), Bangor.

I can't believe the response I've got! Thank you. Okay so here are some dates - My Great Grandmother, Catherine Evans was born in Bontuchaf in 1875. Her father David Evans was born in 1843. Her mother's name was Sarah and we believe that Robert Jones was her father and that he was born in Dolwyddelan in around 1811. So that would make him my 3x great grandfather. Sorry to confuse you Janey. (David Evans Jr was Catherines brother). Have taken a look at the census information Ann and have reached the conclusion that the most likely candidates for the roles of the aboveare no 569 For David and 477 for Robert. We know that the family lived in the same cottage in Bontuchaf for at least 100 years which made the more recent census entries for the family easier to find. Thank you all again for your help. Annette

And there was me thinking it would be practically impossible!
Pah!
Easy-peasy ...
Now Janey - if you can just find my grandfather's birth reg (1884) or any of his siblings (1875 - 1894) or any of their baptisms, or their mother's maiden name ???? Surname Simmons - which is much much much easier than Evans or Jones !!
LOL
