I have been working on my husbands family tree for some time and have traced the Stamps back to 1700's. However I have a problem!! My husbands Grandmother was called Laura Stamp, born Northumberland, 1906. Her parents were George Stamp and Margaret Young. I have traced the Stamps back from George but now I am not sure if my tree is correct. I have found George's father to be John Stamp born 1844 and Ellen Cowle Smith around 1841. I was sure all this was correct until I sent for George and Margarets marriage certificate, to find Margarets info and their ages are completely different to the ones I found. At their marriage in 1903 they are 30 and 23 years old but my information has them born about 5 years earlier. Also Georges father is called Johnson on the certificate not John. I am really sorry to waffle but would be grateful if anyone could tell me if they are likely to be the right people.
Many, many thanks in advance

Have you found Laura and her parents on 1911 census?

Steve

Steve Report 12 Feb 2010 18:48

No. She was my father in laws mother so I know for a fact this is right!! Margaret died when Laura was just a child, thats why I am sure I have the right margaret as she died in 1909, when Laura would have been 6. Georges new wife would not bring her up so she was sent to live with a family member (a believe an aunt but it is not really talked about) and George was never seen by the family again.

Its looking like the Yorkshire family are the correct ones. Johnson is not a very common christian name is it and he was definately deceased by 1903 when George and Margaret married. The certificate states his occupation as a waggonner if that halps with anything.
