Would appreciate if someone could do a lookup for me. Thomas Chandler born 1855/1856 at either Melrose or Anlaby, South Aust. Father was Henry Chandler and Mother may have been Sarah Collis. Thankyou so much. Wendy

Hi Wendy, I have CD-rom of SA birth 1842 to 1906.
However, there is no Thomas Chandler in birth. But there are two children of Henry Chandler and Sarah Collis. They were Henry (b. 1861) and Mary Ann Latitia (b. 1849).
Cheers, Steven.

Hi Wendy
I have checked as well and Steven is correct. But don't depair as many births weren't registered around that time as the Parents may have been living a long distance from any town and they simply never got around to doing the registration. I have an entire family of 8 children like this. They are in the Family Bible, The Church Baptism record but are not in the official birth registrations.

Hello Steven, Thankyou very much for the lookup. I just wondered if the record shows where the 2 children of Henry & Sarah were born? Would you mind looking that up for me.
Thanks Wendy

Hello David,
Thankyou for your advice. Thomas was born away from the city so as you say it could be quite difficult to find his birth record. Oh well, we just plod on.
Thanks Wendy

Hi Wendy
I'm not at home right now so I don't have access to my CD's but from memory Henry's birth was recorded in Black Springs in the Burra registration District and Marys' was in Adelaide, but I'm not 100% certain of that one. I'll check later tonight and respond.

Hi Wendy
Below is what Births I have found PLUS some deaths of children, including Henry (b1861) and Mary Ann (b1849), who I believe are also Henry and Sarah's. It is interesting that there is a death of a Henry Thomas Chandler aged 9 months in 1854. Could this be your Thomas?
I have also found, in case you don't already have the information, the marriage of Henry and Sarah and also possibly their deaths.

Hi Wendy, it is my pleasure.
I am at work at the moment so I remember that Thomas Chandler was married to Ms Cock (I can't remember her name) in 1877. His age was 20. That's mean he was born around 1856. His father was Henry.
I will look up BMD CD-rom for his marriage tonight and I will contact you.
Cheers, Steven.

Hi Wendy,
Thomas Chandler's wife was Harriett. Do you have a copy of their marriage certificate? Oh, he was 21 years old. Harriett was 20 years old.
Do you know when he died? If he died after 1907, his death certificate would show what his birthplace was. I could not find his death details before 1915.
Cheers, Steven.

Hello David, Thankyou for all that work. I do have a copy of marriage cert. for Thomas (21yrs) and Harriet Cock (20yrs) 30/6/1877. Father is Henry Chandler. I also have just received Thomas's death cert. Died 4/1/1939 at 84yrs, in Adelaide. Birthplace is listed as Melrose S.A. I also have my grandmother's (Ada M.G. nee Chandler) birth cert. She was born 3/7/1890 in Broken Hill. It states father as Thomas Chandler 34yrs, birthplace Anlaby, S.A. Through family records it seems Thomas lived around Sevenhill near Clare so maybe him and his father alike moved around a bit due to work. Once again I appreciate all the replies from everyone. Wendy
