Hello my name is martin clemett and I am trying to find a baptism record for my ggggreat grandfather James Shufflebottom and a marriage record for him. He was born in 1808 in Hanley, Staffordshire, England. The Baptism records for Hanley are at the Staffordshire record office but because I am a student it is not feasible for me to get to Staffordshire. James Shufflebottom married Ann Worthington. I would be extremely grateful if anyone who lives near Staffordshire Record Office could help me find his baptism record and maybe a marriage record. I am willing to help anybody to find records of ancestors who were born in the south wales area. |

Thanks to everyone for helping me it is much appreciated. Sorry but I have not updated my family tree on Genes Reunited as my most up to date family tree is on ancestry. So let me explain I have managed to buy the birth certificate of George Martyn Shufflebottom (James son) my gggreat grandfather on there is states that his father is James Shufflebottom and his mother is Ann Worthington. In the 1851 census George Martyn Shufflebottom is found as Martin Shufflebottom and this Martin is definitely him. Mary thanks for looking up the baptisms I have found this baptism before and dismissed it because if it was James Shufflebottom's he would be 6/7 years old when he was christened is this possible it has confused me for a while can you be that old? |

It can happen - sometimes they did a mass baptism of their children, or the priest at the time of the birth couldn't be bothered to chase up the parents. It could be that the father's employer insisted the family attended Church and had the children baptised. |
