Hi
I have family baptisms recorded here in 1900 where the address of residence is given as "2 C Hospital". is this a reference to the workhouse proper or the workhouse infirmary. I note that there are many such records and most children baptised with this address are fatherless. Can anyone shed any light please. Thank you H
Does this church still exist? (Edit) No I have found it has been amalgamated with other church in area.

Thank you for the very detailed references for St Marks - and the link to the comprehensive workhouse site. I was aware of the site and find it very useful for general info about individual workhouses and the life therein etc. Still cant find a reference to this "2 C Hospital" - even googled it to see what I could find. Think it must be a workhouse infirmary , probably Paddington as I can find the mother in Paddington workhouse in 1911 census.
Will ask Archivists at London Metropitain Records Office for help next time I visit. Aagin my thanks H

H,

Might be off-beam here, but looking at the baptisms for 1900 for St.Marks a huge number in the early part of the year are for parent(s) with the abode Queen Charlotte's Hospital. The writing goes through a phase (starting at image 4 if you are looking at Ancestry), where the "Q" looks like a "2".
It is also worth noting that the references to Queen Charlotte's Hospital seem to stop when references to 2C Hospital start.
Just a thought.

St Marks in Marylebone was used by Queen Charlotte Hospital mainly to baptise babies born to unwed mothers, the babies were actually baptised in the hosptial chapel but claimed by St Marks.
