I am looking for info on my husbands fathers family.
His grandfather was Joseph Glover born 1862 at Mount Rat Victora Aust.
He also had a brother John 1860c I have no other info bar this on where they come from. Joseph married a Mary Greenfield on the 4/12/1909 at Port Lincoln SAust. they had 11 children.
would like to know where the family came from and how they got here

There is no Mount Rat in the state of Victoria?....but there is a Mount Rat Rd, Port Victoria, in S.A

However, there is a "Mount Ararat" in the state of Victoria

Update:

It appears this John GLOVER married Margaret IRELAND in South Australia ( 1856 )..........both moved to the state of Victoria where the first 3 children were born.....then back to South Australia again, where the rest of the children were born/registered after 1862.

On Joseph's deaths cert is is Mount Rat, Victoria also on this sons birth cert would it be wrong and they ment Port Victoria SA. Is there any records of births at Port Victoria SA,.

Death certs are only as good as the information that is supplied by the "informant" concerning the deceased, and how well they new the deceased person, and where he/she was born.

It is also possible that there is an spelling or typo error on the death cert of Joseph........and it was meant to say Ararat? or Mount Ararat in Victoria.

The birth index's for the State of Victoria show only one Joseph Glover birth registered in1862.

Do you have Joseph's marriage cert? ( this would confirm his parents names )

I think Tony is right on the money with Joseph's birth, and his siblings. Mt Ararat fits, more likely what they mean (may be a bit of a nickname - they would not remember having been there!). There is a birth in SA of a Joseph Hopkins GLOVER in 1863 Yankalilla, but his father's name is Thomas which does not fit the info you have, not to mention the middle name.

Interesting her initials have been used rather than Joseph's!

This might help strengthen the link - Margaret died in Port Adelaide.

Clara & Margaret GLOVER, daughters of John & Margaret, both died young in Port Adelaide, Clara in 1871 and Margaret in 1867.

Daughter Isabella married Albert BODHOLT [BODHOLDT] in PA in 1880; she died in 1946 aged 89. Daughter Elizabeth married George SKINNER in PA, also in 1880; she died in 1938 aged 78.

Son Alfred married Eliza WEBB in 1894 in PA and died in 1939 in PA aged 67.

Margare snrt, John snr (d. 1904 aged 78), John jnr (d. 1905 aged 36), Isabella, Alfred & Eliza, Elizabeth & George, are all buried at Cheltenham Cemetery (SA).
