i have been looking at records on findmypast but that is most certainly williams mum/ benjamins wife and beny lamboll is williams son :) elizabeth i dont know :s and okay i shall look at what it means :)

it will give you information like that. Messuage is

A dwelling house with outbuildings and land assigned to its use.

Tenement today means a multi-family dwelling, I think at the time 'messuages and tenements' was just a set phrase referring to a dwelling or dwellings on a property.

i can confirm william had a brother james but i wonder as to why william got nothing on the will, maybe they didnt get on im thinking, i also cant find a John Lamboll anywhere on the records? i'd like to know when elizabeth actually died but i cant find her neither

A rood is an area of land measurement:

rood 1011.71 sq m
1210 square yards = 1 rood
40 (square) poles = 1 rood
1 furlong x 1 pole = 1 rood
4 roods = 1 acre
Old records of land mention areas measured in '... A, ...R, ...P'. This will be acres, roods and (square) poles or perch.

So that land measuring 40 roods was about 10 acres.

he owns two houses on a property, one where son John lives and one where a William Winson lives, and he wills them both to John, except that he places conditions on it (this would not work today the way he has worded it and it is a little confusing to us) --

'the rents of both to be paid to and enjoyed by my dearly beloved wife Elizabeth during her life'

as long as Elizabeth is alive, John and the tenant have to pay her rent for the houses, so really they are only John's after she dies

'and after her demise the sum of two hundred pounds is to be paid by my well beloved son John Lamboll for the benefit of his Brothers after which payment the aforesaid two messuages and tenements and the benefits arising therefrom will be possessed and enjoyed freely by him & his heirs'

when Elizabeth dies, John gets full ownership of the houses, but he has to pay 200 pounds to his brothers and then he owns the houses in full

'Also I give and bequeath to my well beloved Son James Lamboll a piece of Land called Heathers containing about forty Roods more or less situated at Ramoness Common to be enjoyed by him and his heirs'

this is a separate property that he wills to son James

Empshott would have been a very small place and it would not be surprising for people who were related through one of their parents to marry each other

And there wasn't a lot of variety in names then, so for there to be an Elizabeth in two generations of Heighes's (probably more!) would not be surprising too. :)

wow guys!! this information is amazing! to help his father was Benjamin Lamboll (1767-1833) and mother i think is Elizabeth but we're not sure on surname as hers in heighes and so is Williams Elizabeth! this could help alot, i think it could be Williams fathers will, i want to know what his brothers names were but i am struggling to find out. Where was William born??

Hello everyone,
I want to find out about my GGGG Grandfather William Lamboll, he was born in 1803 and died in i think 1871, he married Elizabeth Heighes (1818-1886) and had seven children, William, Theirza, George, Mary, Charles, Benjamin & Alfred. I know my GGGG grandmother had a grocers shop but i'd like to know what William did as most ofhis boys on the 1881 census were Ag Labourers and Elizabeth and her daughter Theirza ran the shop. I do have a picture but only what i took on my phone as the photos belong to my grandmother and are very delicate so i darent move them about too much! Thanks for reading,
