Thank you everyone -the posts have helped enormously. Think he may have been married to one of my paternal grandfathers relatives. So will start trying to find a Joseph Kirkham that married someone with the surname Adams.

just to clarify - it looks as though he was a crew member of the 'Maxwell', not of the Liverpool lifeboat ?? He was noted on the crew list as J F Kirkham AB

This is the wreck report by the Board of Trade -

One of crew members - J F Kirkham of Madryn Street, Liverpool

Judith

Judith Report 11 Oct 2012 18:30

Hi

I am trying to find information about J F Kirkham, he was a crew member on the Liverpool Lifeboat in 1892 when it went to help the Maxwell and I believe the Liverpool Lifeboat was badly damaged with some loss of life. On the crew list is this person and I think he may be an ancestor of mine although the Kirkham name doesn't appear on my tree at the moment. I have a clock awarded to Mr and Mrs Kirkham in 1930 for their Golden Wedding Anniversary this clock belonged to my paternal grandmother, Gertrude Upton.
