If you want to be sure that you have the right line, you do need to get a copy of the marriage cert, to find out the name and occupation of William's father

You can order it on line for £9.25 if you go to the GRO website, and register (free).

Don't get certs from any of the other sites (apart from County Offices) as they will rip you off

thanks for all the information its taken this long to find where to find answers to my messages, i did'nt realise my grandfather william valentine coombs was from bristol area i know my great grand mother alice elizabeth coombs nee newcomb was originally from bristol area her date of birth was 21st september year unknown she has a sister called ethel and maybe a brother john. if anyone has any more information please could you reply now i know what to do i can reply quickly many thanks jill
