Anyone able to find Ann hurst born in 1813-1819 on the 1841 census in either osealdtwistle or rishton. Possibly connection to the surname fish . Married Thomas Duxbury in 1844 . Had daughter betsy hurst in 1843 out of wedlock. Betsy married James towning in Burnley in 1867. Can anyone find betsy or Ann as hurst on any census in 1841. Betsy maybe in 1871 would say where she was born i guess :-) :-D |

From a tree on Ancestry, which seems quite well-researched, although I don't understand the reference to a half-sister, in view of the parents' years of death |

Yes,..know of that tree but definately not my john or Thomas Duxbury ..think i proved a long time ago that that Thomas moved to rochdale ...it was thought for a while by a few other distant relatives that this was the correct link but checking this it us definately a different family . Shame really as it would have solved the mystery . |

Yes . They have mixed up the two families . Definately not mine ..it was proved by finding the Colne Thomas in rochdale i think ...i can't remember exactly as it's so long ago but they have mixed up the john and Thomas from Colne with mine . :-S |

I am trying a new line. I think i have found a marriage for nancy Duxbury (anne) , one of the children of Thomas Duxbury and Anne Hurst. I found what i think is her marriage at holy trinity church in Burnley in 1878 to James Taylor. Please can anyone discover them on the census in Burnley. Perhaps the 1881 and 1891. I'm trying to find deaths but it's harder due to the names being common. Think they had child named James Henry Taylor in 1880 and Ellen and Taylor in 1878 . Think also Rosetta in 1882 but she died in 1888. Think Lawrence Taylor also married a Mary Duxbury and had a Rosetta at a similar time period in Burnley too so they may have been connected.also think perhaps had Henry in 1884 and 1886 had James Taylor . Possibly john William in 1888 but that could either have been Lawrence and Mary or James Taylor and Anne Duxbury. ? :-) |

Just found that Lawrence Taylor married Mary walmsley not Mary Duxbury..but still think they both, James and Lawrence , both had a child Rosetta which may make them related ...just guessing though as both families were living in the same places r.g Wood top and oak hill street . Coincidentally Thomas later married Agnes fairbairn and they lived on oakhill street. And a,Margaret fairbairn and James townend were witnesses at James Taylor and Anne (nancy) duxburys wedding in 1878 . :-S |

Thanks Erica. Think Rosetta Taylor burial is the child of James Taylor and Anne Duxbury then . Found birth in 1882 . On looking it seems that Lawrence and James Taylor had different fathers names so not brothers but maybe cousins ? Is there any sign of James Taylor and Ann nee Duxbury in Burnley on the1881 or 1891 census ? They are aged about 20 it says on their marriage in 1878 . I think this is the nancy Duxbury daughter of Thomas and Anne nee Hurst. I think by this time Thomas has remarrued to Agnes fairbairn . First child of James Taylor and Anne nee Duxbury is Ellen ann born in 1878 and second child is James Henry Taylor born in 1880 . |
