Please can anyone assist. I am looking for more information on Alexander Macdonald and Annie Munro from Edderton, Ross-shire around 1871. He was the stationmaster at Edderton at the time. Their son, John Macdonald was born 1871 and went off to fight in the Boer war in 1899. John then took up a position at Town Clerk in Bulawayo, Rhodesia. He came home to his father (Alexander) in Fochabers in 1919 due to ill health, and died there on 30/08/1919. Annie Munro was already deceased, but Alexander was at his sons side when he died in Fochabers. |

If the November 1840 birth is the right Alexander, this is the family in 1841: |

Thank you so very much Andy, Abby, Argyll Gran and everyone else who has replied with leads. I am so excited to finally have something to go on. I have found some genealogy sites to be so confusing and gone around in circles for month - I can't believe you found some information so quickly. I think your records may have hit it on the nail. |

Had a look at the marriage certificate. You're spot on ArgyllGran with Alexander's parents. Father Alexander was a Mason. Both parents deceased. |

Possibly Annie's birth, in that case - although a few years out from the marriage cert: |
