Thanks for that, AustinQ .I had found the difference in the son's birth record and her Marriage to Leo Gillen but not the death of Mary Ann record. Strange, but as you say it seems to be the same family I was searching for.

Don't discount the Sunderland born Norah Connor- the family were also known as O'Connor


When Norah's son is born, her maiden name is listed as Connor.

Have you checked the 1911 Irish census .the surname sounds Irish

Think you do need the marriage cert for her fathers name otherwise it's just guesswork

The 1939 register gives her DOB so you may be able to find her birth from that or find her on the 1911 census

I found a marriage for Leo James Gillen to a Norah O'Connor in 1920,in Hartlepool.
I've been unable to find where she was born. Could anybody help,please,or does it
mean the only way to prove it is to have the marriage certificate?
