Arthur Brown - born 1936 - believe Liverpool

Trudy Report 11 Nov 2017 08:00

Am looking for him - he is the father of my brother in law, although he left home before my brother in law was 11 (he is now 55) and the whole family was split up. We are not wanting to contact him, just to be able to fill in some gaps in my BIL's family history for him.

Arthur married Pauline Bellew in Liverpool South in 1962, aged 26, and they went on to have 4 children, James (my BIL) in 1962, Paul in 1963, David in 1965 and Andrew in 1967.

Although I cannot find the entry for her death, I understand from my BIL that his Mum committed suicide just before his 12th birthday, by which time his Dad was long gone from the marriage. I do have her birth certificate and she was born in 1939 in Prescot.

My BIL also believes, though cannot be sure, that he was named after his Grandfather - BIL's name is James Christopher. This is where my dilemma begins - even with a common surname I can only locate one Arthur Brown, born 1936 in Liverpool, however then tracing back a marriage from this birth entry the fathers name is William not James.

I have looked in the 1939 register and cannot find him, so seem to have hit a bit of a dead end. If anyone has any ideas where else I might look I would really appreciate it.

thank you.

Well, this is Pauline on 1939 - she is in a strange household as all the other entries are closed ??

What is the significance of 'Bridget' which has been added in green writing ?
It has RC 13655 written with this? - Could she have been christened with that name as an adult?

Also in green writing at the other side of page is CR 282/LIP ? 2 2 62 ? - could this have been the date of her marriage and was she christened at the same time ??

Her name change to Brown was also in green and the original name was, in fact, BELLEW !

All this writing appears to have been added at the same time.

Can't be sure of 'Arthur' - do you know anything more about him please - perhaps from the marriage cert?

On freebmd there are several siblings or Pauline from 1927 so probably they haven't been picked up as deceased so still closed records

Her parents and a couple of siblings are on the 1939 reg all listed separately for some reason although in the same household
There are several closed records so the transcribers haven't linked them togther

Hi Shirley - its note the Bellew line I am trying to find, his mum was born Pauline Bellew - she married Arthur Brown (my BIL's father) in 1962. She committed suicide when my BIL was about 12 (cant find her death date).

It is Arthur Brown's birth I am trying to find and confirm, but thank you for the above

Hi Trudy

You really need to purchase a copy of the marriage cert to be able to get any further with Arthur Brown.

Hi Shirley, I have a copy of the marriage cert now- it doesn't give me much on Arthur, only that his father was James Christopher and had died before the marriage - the address is unreadable unfortunately.

Can you scan the cert into your computer and add the image on your 'Keepsafe' ( top menu) then someone might be able to decipher the address?

Hi Nyx - unfortunately don't have a scanner, so not possible.

If we can assume that father James C Brown died between Arthur's birth and the marriage then there are these two that it might be possible to find on the 1911 census or 1939 ?

Do you think Emily might have taken the name Brown without marrying and that Arthur is her son by James?

Nyx thank you so much for all your help with this - unfortunately I have been dealing with the funeral/probate of an elderly aunt so haven't been about, but will go through what you have found for me over the next week or so.
