This looks like the couple above in the 1939 Register (although Alma is transcribed as female, on the image it is definitely male):-

Bennett Household (4 People)
34 Carlton Street , Hemsworth R.D., Yorkshire (West Riding), England

FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) DOB SEX OCCUPATION MARITAL STATUS SCHEDULE SCHEDULE SUB NUMBER

Decadia Bennett 18 Jan 1896 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 275 2
Alma Bennett 28 Oct 1893 Female Colliery Hewer - Heavy Worker Married 275 1
Edna Spencer (Bennett) 20 May 1923 Female Domestic Daily Worker Single 275 3
Margaret Parton (Bennett) 24 Jun 1932 Female At School Single 275 4

Seems they also had a daughter named Edna.

There is this marriage:-

England & Wales marriages 1837-2005 Transcription

First name(s) ALMA
Last name BENNETT
Marriage quarter 3
Marriage year 1917
Registration month -
MarriageFinderâ„¢ ALMA BENNETT married
Decadia Shaw
Spouse's last name Shaw
District Pontefract
District number -
County Yorkshire
Country England
Volume 9C
Volume as transcribed 9C
Page number 187
Record set England & Wales Marriages 1837-2005

Although it would appear that Alma Bennett sounds like a female name therefore wouldn't be the father of Joyce Bennett, the birth of Decadia Shaw is actually a female birth (according to the GRO site) so Alma must be a male or the name has been mistranscribed. According to Google, although Alma is usually a female name it was historically also used as a masculine name.

I'm looking for parents of Joyce V P Bennett - Joyce was born in 1919 but I have no names or dates at present so I know this will be difficult. She had a sister Margaret. The mothers maiden name was Shaw. Joyce was born in Pontefract so I am presuming her parents came from around the Yorkshire area . In 1918 Monica Peace Bennett was born to Mark Bennett and Isabella Rigby - but yet again I'm not sure of the relationship - just going by the name Peace.
My friend is still waiting for information from his relative who I think is on holiday. .. not much help I know.
