This appears to be the couple although there is another name for Kathleen - she must have married again later?

This was on the other thread:

---------------------

Hastings and St Leonards Observer 15 July 1939

St Thomas of Canterbury Church, St Leonards was the scene of a charming wedding on Saturday when Miss Kathleen Mary Harrington, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Harrington of 52 Church Road, St Leonards was married to Alfred Leonard Russell, eldest son of Mr & Mrs Russell of Western Road, St Leonards.

Can anyone locate 52 Church Rd in 1939?

Thanks Dea. I am getting overwhelmed again by the amazing help that I am getting here. I thought Anne's mother's side of the family (also Kelly, I wonder if there is a connection) was confusing, but this is getting worse.

Dea

Dea Report 14 Mar 2019 16:59

Jan, you asked above:

Dea, how have you made a connection between the above and our Harringtons? I can't see the connection yet.

Re my post at 15.35.

This was in response to a 'possible' wich Choccy had just posted and I was showing that they were not 'ours' so vey probably no connection.

I found an Agnes M Kelly in 1911 London Electoral Register at 6 Denmark Street (offices), home address 82 Vincent Square, Westminster. I found it in the 1911 census, St. George's Hotel, a ladies' residential club - but no Agnes M Kelly.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Mar 2019 16:40

Dea, afraid it's not Mary Veronica. She is on the electoral registers in Greenhill Park Willesden with her Mum and sister in 1930.

By 1935 her sisters have also adopted the name Mary into their names:

Celeste Margaret Mary Kelly
Winifride Lucy Mary Kelly

ArgyllGran Report 14 Mar 2019 16:39

I had wondered about Mary Veronica too, as her father seems to be the only travelling salesman named Michael Kelly that we can find.

But yes, it is a big change from Mary Veronica in 1911 to Agnes Mary just 5 years later.

Parents' marriage:

Marriages Mar 1886 (>99%)
Kelly Michael Timothy Wolverhampton 6b 682
KITCHEN Lucy Elizabeth Wolverhampton 6b 682

and her sister Celeste;

So who is this child ??

Janet

Janet Report 14 Mar 2019 15:50

I must admit I wondered about Mary Veronica, but somehow thought from that to Agnes Mary might be a leap too far.

I also found this:

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Birth place Occupation
Henry M Kelly Head Married Male 30 1871 USA Commercial Traveller
Mary Kelly Wife Married Female 26 1875 USA
Elsie Kelly Daughter Single Female 2 1899 France

but again, Elsie to Agnes Mary is quite a jump.

I still am leaning towards the family which you previously discounted,:

1911 Census For England & Wales
2 Greenhill Park Harlesden N W, Willesden, Middlesex, England

Michael T Kelly's Household Members
Members that resided in the household at the time of the census.
First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
Michael T Kelly Head Married Male 59 1852 Commercial Traveller Wolverhampton
Lucy Elizabeth Kelly Wife Married Female 53 1858 - Coven Staff
Margaret Kelly Sister Single Female 54 1857 - Wolverhampton
Mary Veronica Kelly Daughter Single Female 21 1890 Certificated Mistress Willesden
Celesti Margaret Kelly Daughter Single Female 18 1893 Uncertificated Mistress Willesden
Winefrede Lucy Kelly Daughter Single Female 16 1895 - Willesden
Michael T Kelly's Census Details
Details taken from the original census record.

He was Michael Timothy at marriage:
Kelly Michael Timothy Wolverhampton 6b 682 Scan available - click to view
KITCHEN Lucy Elizabeth Wolverhampton 6b 682 Scan available - click to view

His occupation on the 1911 exactly fits the details on her marriage cert and as he was said to be deceased at the time of her marriage, (1916), then he must have died before that date.

This death fits that timescale and could also fit the person in the 1911 census?

Deaths Jun 1913
Kelly Michael T 61 Fulham 1a 292

KELLY, MICHAEL TIMOTHY 61
GRO Reference: 1913 J Quarter in FULHAM Volume 01A Page 292

If this if the family, I strongly believe that Mary Veronica could be the 'Agnes Mary' we seek.

Can anyone find anything after the census for Mary Veronica which would disprove this so we can at least 'put this family to bed' ?

Dea, how have you made a connection between the above and our Harringtons? I can't see the connection yet. I have traced the Harrington line back a few generations, and don't think they fit in.

I asked Anne if Agnes might have been a teacher, her reply:

"I don't know, sorry. I know she was meant to be a great seamstress and it was rumoured (not sure if this is true) that she worked for a Parisian fashion house, so perhaps she taught it. I always had the impression she was a snob and had delusions of grandeur."

She doesn't remember visiting her grandmother after about the age of 10 (so about 1964), but as Anne's father (Agnes' son) had deserted them when Anne was about 5, she's not surprised they didn't keep in touch.

Her occupation on marriage certificate January 1916 was governess.
